New high-performance 187cc touring cylinder by Larchotek for Vespa Wideframe models
With the innovative 187cc touring cylinder from South Tyrolean company Larchotek, Vespa enthusiasts now have completely new opportunities in the area of tuning for wideframe models. This cylinder was developed by Ahron Larcher, who drew on the long-standing experience of Gianfranco Frison, an experienced design lead at APRILIA, as well as the extensive expertise of Massimo Santinello in the field of 3D CAD.
Experience from the racing scene
The development of the cylinder benefited significantly from the international successes and extensive know-how of the Vespa racing scene. Ahron Larcher was able to incorporate his in-depth knowledge and experience into the design and optimisation of the cylinder. Even in the first road tests, this high-quality aluminium cylinder, the result of professional collaboration, impressed with its thoughtful construction and performance.
Technical innovations and modern manufacturing
The cylinder features a precise and long-lasting Nicasil coating. A membrane inlet ensures optimal power delivery in all riding situations, providing high-level riding enjoyment. With its innovative design, based on the state of two-stroke technology in 2026, and high manufacturing quality, the "Dolomiti" sets new standards and is capable of replacing established tuning systems in the wideframe sector.
Compatibility and installation
The cylinder kit is suitable for all 2-channel wideframe engines. For installation, the engine casing only needs to be machined by around 0.5 mm – this can be done either mechanically or by hand with a milling tool. For enquiries, the Larchotek team can be contacted by email at info@larchotek.com during regular business hours.
It is, however, recommended that a comprehensive engine overhaul with high-quality replacement parts and, if necessary, fine-tuning on older engines be carried out during installation to achieve the best possible result.
Technical data at a glance
-
- Connecting rod length: 115 mm
- Timing: approx. 120/175 (variable via spacers)
Advantages of the membrane intake
The membrane intake increases engine performance while significantly reducing fuel consumption – a real gamechanger for long-distance rides. Thanks to the self-acting control of the intake opening angle, high torque and optimal gas flow are achieved across low, medium and high rev ranges. The result is an extremely rideable engine with an extended rev range and maximised power, as well as a broad torque curve that begins at low rpm. This makes the cylinder particularly attractive for touring in mountainous terrain. The name "DOLOMITI" is therefore a tribute to the developers and the region.
